New Educational Opportunity Coming to Ave Maria
In the vibrant heart of a community that cherishes education, Ave Maria announces plans to open its first public elementary school. Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) is designing an institution which will serve grades K-5, will be a major milestone for the community’s youngest residents, adding to the educational opportunities for residents.
Erick Carter, a CCPS board member, expressed his enthusiasm, “This is a great example of the school district responding to current and future educational needs of our community.” The rapid growth in Ave Maria underscored the necessity for a nearby public school, which will help reduce transportation costs and ease overcrowding at existing schools.
Currently, Ave Maria boasts strong educational institutions, including private educational options like Palm Preschool, Rhodora J. Donahue Academy, and Fellowship Church & Academy. Ave Maria University adds to the rich educational landscape with its rigorous academic programs. Ave Maria is also zoned for A-rated public schools – Estates Elementary School, Corkscrew Middle School, and Palmetto Ridge High School.
CCPS board member Stephanie Lucarelli shared her excitement about the new school. “For several years, we have heard requests from residents for Collier County Public Schools to build a school in Ave Maria. I’m thrilled to finally bring this new school to the community.”
The school, initially planned for 500 students, will now accommodate 900 due to growing demand and will open by the 2026-2027 school year. The design includes future expansion possibilities, including potential middle school space. Marc Rouleau, CCPS chief facilities officer, emphasized the need for this adaptability given the significant growth in the community and surrounding areas.
The school’s name, mascot, and other details will be decided with community input, ensuring that everyone feels a part of this exciting process. A new dedicated website will keep parents, students, homeowners, and other interested parties updated with the latest news and provide a platform for feedback.
